Well its about that time again.
Feel free to read into that however you like. I mean, with a statement like that applicability is the thing isn’t it? For me, it boils down to making another highly irregular blog rambling.
Thing is with these sorts of things, it seems to come down to some kind of catharsis. Meaning, something personal as opposed to anything you actually believe someone else is reading. I think that in large part is what the internet community has become in recent years, if it can even still be called a community. A massive archive of narcissism, unchecked consumerism and a lot of people struggling to fight their way through the frontier they believe will define them. That frontier of course being that barrier of obscurity that is present wherever people congregate. The isolation of the masses.
As an artist, presumably someone who makes my living by promoting and selling my brand of interpretation, I am constantly plunging into that territory. I usually find a lot of isolation, mostly because doing what I love, keeps me from doing what I love. that is to say, the things that inspired me to pursue this line of work, are so much harder to do now that I have all of the responsibilities you pick up as you push forward. House, kids, wife, business, blood pressure issues. Treasures and scars in equal measure. Then suddenly out there in the wild, it starts snowing, you hear Christmas carols on the radio, and all the Who’s in Whoville start at it again.
It’s hard to know what to make of it sometimes. It’s hard to find that path back toward family, and sharing and community, when you have only had your own voice for company for so long. I love my wife, and my children and all the rest of my friends and family.
But I also love my frontier, and my pockets full of stones.
Who am I kidding, turkey always wins in the end. And it almost is that time again.
